Heavy wind challenges the crews

Copa Del Rey - Heavy wind challenges the crews
PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(5-8-2005) Bribón wins the first race and Movistar the second one. Lexus leader in TP 52 general classification. Matador and Maserati-Viña Mar give out the victories in IMS 500, whereas CAM continues on the lead with a comfortable advantage. Forum Filatélico and Andalucía Te Quiere partial winners, Movistar leads IMS 600. Quum Sevilla wins today´s tests and touches a possible final victory in IMS 670.

Everything goes in the air for the Copa del Rey – Agua Brava after a day in which the crews had to fight fiercely due to the heavy wind.

In TP 52 class, the equality is maximum: only two points of difference among the first four boats of the general classification. Lexus Quantum, Movistar, Caixa Galicia and Atalanti will get an intense competition the final days of the race.

During today’s first test, Bribón sailed as in its best times, dominating the fleet from the start to the end.

In this first test the wind began with an intensity of 12 knots and finished with 18 knots of 235.

In the second test, Movistar, won with authority and made up for many points during a great day for Pedro Campos and Vasco Vascotto team.

In spite of not being a good day for Lexus Quantum, it remains leader in the general classification.

In IMS 500 the day has experienced continuous increases of wind that helped the medium size fleet, like Maserati – Viña Mar or Matador, to climb up in the overall standings. Besides this, CAM is very near to get the final victory.

Maserati – Viña Mar controlled the first test in IMS 500 and sailed comfortably far away from its rivals, taking advantage of the wind increase and an arrival in stern. Right after them, Azur de Puig achieved today its best result with a second position, followed by Matador which chose the right side of the regatta´s field almost from the same start, being closely marked by the whole fleet. Due to its right tactic, Matador won this test followed by Tau Cerámica and CAM. The general classification is dominated by CAM followed by Maserati Viñamar in second place and Matador, third. On the other hand, Azur de Puig has descended two positions from second to fourth.

In IMS 600, favourite boats have been sailing very close, with continuous arrivals in group to the buoys so they had to pay very expensive any mistake. On arriving in the first buoy, Forum Filatélico marked the distances from the rest of the fleet, although finally arrived sixth, Movistar went third and crossed fourth the second buoy, whereas Andalucía Te Quiere was fifth in the first buoy and first in the second one.

In IMS 670 the leadership of Quum Sevilla is so clear, that it is almost sure that it is going to win the Copa del Rey – Agua Brava. Dufour 40 of Sergio Llorca is the boat with more advantage before the second classified in all classes. Mutua Madrileña, followed by Movistar, third, and Clínica Arroyo, fourth have only 1,5 points of difference so the fight for the final second place it is being very hard.

Tomorrow the IMS fleet will carry out windward leeward courses, while for TP 52 a coastal course will be held.
